Sagittal Brain

Sagittal Brain

The Sagittal Brain was inspired by the computerized tomography (CT) brain scan in the sagittal (side) view. It is to me incredible that we can virtually slice through the brain and see how this essential organ sits encased behind a thin bony shell, and how it connects to, process, and control all of our senses and movements. The CT brain scan is particularly interesting because it presents something recognizable, the human head, and yet it is dramatic, strange and intriguing. The artwork combines collage of tables, figures, and images from radiology journals, with painting and drawing, and writing of symbols, figures, and mathematical formulas relevant to the imaging technique.
