The Rivalry depicts the battle between the best attacking players of this century – Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Rivals are ubiquitous in the world of sports, but this rivalry is special because of its 15-year duration and the two players’ dominating and record-breaking performances, and because it has been digitized and quantified using sports performance data. The Rivalry is “painted” with such data on the two players, converted into graphs, charts and tables, and with the trophies they have each won. The picture therefore tells the story of their remarkable careers individually and in comparison, and is a reminder of how lucky we have been to see them play.
