Soren's story

Soren is a visual artist, a scientist (astrophysicist, Ph.D.), and an experienced public speaker. His lifelong pursuits of art and science have been fueled by a natural creativity and a deep and wide-ranging curiosity about the natural world. His SciArt reflects his enduring passion for both art, science, and education, and blends art and science in a thoughtful and purposeful way to tell profound stories about the topics he explores.

Soren was born in Denmark where his lifelong passion for art was ignited at an early age by his artist father. He drew, printed, sculpted, and painted, and developed a deep and lasting passion for visual art.

His youth was dominated by elite-level soccer on club, regional, and youth national teams. Soren played as a semi-professional for 7 years while finishing high school and attending university, until the completion of his Master’s degree in physics and astronomy at the University of Copenhagen, and the start of a PhD study in astrophysics in the USA, forced him to stop. He also served one year in the Royal Danish Air Force before moving to the USA.

Following his doctorate from University of Wisconsin – Madison Soren had an exciting and successful 14-year career at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge in Massachusetts. Soren’s research involved studying the structure and evolution of single stars, binary stars, and clusters of stars, and he worked with NASA on missions (Kepler and TESS) to discover planets beyond our solar system (exoplanets). Both his stellar and exoplanet research led to many pier reviewed publications including two first author articles in the journal Nature.

Soren retains his affiliation with the Harvard-Smithsonian, but now devotes himself to working full time as a visual artist.

“We each have two lives; the second one begins when we realize that we only have one”
